- War room set up to aggressively combat House GOP, per NBC News
- Kevin McCarthy has indicated an impeachment inquiry could come this month
- ‘Never in modern history has an impeachment been based on no evidence whatsoever,’ White House aide said
President Joe Biden has an impeachment war room set up at the White House, filled with dozens of lawyers and aides to help him battle House Republicans, according to a new report out Friday.
Those battle plans include taking on GOP lawmakers digging into Hunter Biden‘s business dealings and those threatening to impeach the president – a move that could come by the end of the month.
The war room will be based in the White House counsel’s office and will be staffed by lawyers, legislative aides and communications staffers who will act aggressively against Republicans’ investigations, NBC News reported.
President Biden has a war room in the White House to combat House Republicans
It comes as Biden ramps up his re-election efforts and many polls show voters want an alternative choice for the White House.
The White House has acted more aggressively in recent days, including going after Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for saying she would not vote to fund the government this month unless there was an impeachment inquiry launched against the president.
The ramp up comes as the possiblity of an impeachment grows.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy has signaled that the process against Biden could be launched this month and could potentially move forward without a full House vote.
Republicans have pushed allegations of corruption against Biden tied to Hunter Biden’s business work and argued the two federal investigations into Donald Trump are politically-motivated.
The White House argued the impeachment threat is about politics.
‘Comparing this to past impeachments isn’t apples to apples or even apples to oranges; it’s apples to elephants,’ a White House aide told NBC News. ‘Never in modern history has an impeachment been based on no evidence whatsoever.’
Moving forward without a full House vote would avoid forcing moderates from swing districts to go on record with such a politically dicey matter. But it comes at the risk of McCarthy looking like he is politicizing the impeachment process – something he has been adamant in saying he does not want to do.
But McCarthy is also under pressure from Trump – who remains furious about his own two impeachments (he was acquited in both cases by the Senate – and conservative Republicans.
Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana, the vice chair of the GOP conference, laid out the case for impeachment on Fox News Monday morning: ‘Article two, Section four says that treason, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors. And on Capitol Hill, a lot of people debate and quibble about what high crimes and misdemeanors are.
‘But we know what bribery is. It’s someone paying you to do their bidding. And that’s what happened here, apparently.’

House Republicans are also investigating Hunter Biden’s business dealings
Trump also has been vocal on the issue.
‘The Republicans in Congress, though well meaning, keep talking about an impeachment ‘inquiry’ of crooked Joe Biden,’ the former president posted to Truth Social. ‘Biden is a Stone Cold Crook – you don’t need a long INQUIRY to prove it, it’s already proven.’
‘Either impeach the BUM or fade into OBLIVION,’ Trump added.
The White House has avidly denied Joe had any involvement in Hunter’s business dealings and Democrats have taken to saying that Hunter profited off the ‘illusion’ of access to his then-vice president father in business meetings.
Additionally, the White House has repeatedly pointed out the Justice Department operates as an independent agency and they don’t comment on its investigations.
