Israel blocking Gaza rescue teams for second week, civil defense says
Gaza’s civil defense says Israeli forces have, for a second week in a row, rejected all coordination requests to allow rescue teams into areas where residents, including the wounded, have appealed for help.
In a statement, the agency said it submitted 73 requests through international organizations, all of which were denied. The teams are saying Israeli quadcopters are following them if they try to save the lives of trapped people.
It said some of the wounded died while waiting for rescue. Relatives of some also risked their lives to carry them to hospitals.

Nearly half of Gaza war deaths reported in areas Israel called ‘safe’
Gaza’s Government Media Office has slammed Israel for misleading Palestinians with threats to evacuate to the central and southern governorates by portraying them as “safe humanitarian zones”, while continuing to strike those same areas.
Since the forced displacement from Gaza City began on August 11, the office said Israeli forces have launched 133 attacks on central and southern districts, including the al-Mawasi area, which Israel itself had designated as a so-called “safe zone”.

The Israeli occupation is coercing Gaza families: “Cooperate or be killed”
The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has documented a dangerous policy of extortion by Israeli forces against families in the Gaza Strip, presenting them with a catastrophic, no-win choice: either collaborate with the Israeli army and its militias, or face mass killing, starvation and forcible displacement.
What began as individual extortion has escalated into a systematic, collective practice aimed at dismantling Palestinian social fabric by forcing people to betray their communities and subordinating survivors to survival conditions that destroy communal identity and resilience.
Our field team recorded an unprecedented intensification of Israel’s coercive tactics. The pressure has shifted from targeting individuals to organized collective extortion that places entire families before a horrific equation: join militias created by Israel or face persecution, mass killing, starvation and forced expulsion — a coordinated attempt to eliminate Palestinian society or reduce it to submission under occupation control.

‘Trickle’ of aid insufficient to address Gaza catastrophe
Martin Griffiths, director of Mediation Group International, has warned that starvation in Gaza continues to spread as Israeli troops press deeper into the cut-off north. He said only about 80 are entering the Strip daily, out of the minimum 500 trucks of humanitarian aid needed. “It’s a trickle,” he added.
The former senior UN official has spent decades on aid operations front lines around the globe. He told Al Jazeera he’s never witnessed anything like the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding now in Gaza.
“I’ve never seen anything like this, and the brazen nature in which Prime Minister Netanyahu set out his set out his stall [made his intentions clear] on Friday still haunts us.”

Hamas says it hasn’t received Trump plan to end Gaza war
Hamas hasn’t received US President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan, even as the US president expressed optimism that a deal is close.
In comments to reporters on Friday, Trump said, “It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza.” He offered no details of its contents and gave no timetable. Israel has not yet made any public response to Trump’s comments.

RUSSIA’S TOP DIPLOMAT LIKENS GAZA PLAN TO “RESERVATION”: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday that reported plans for “collective management” of the Gaza Strip resemble the formation of a “reservation,” comparing the rumors to a colonial arrangement. He pointed to speculation about a 21-point plan, noting that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was cited in media reports as a potential “Governor-General of Gaza.”

Netanyahu admits using social media as weapon to influence US opinion amid Gaza genocide
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted Friday that his government views social media platforms as a “weapon” to support Israel’s right-wing in the US amid condemnation for ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.
In a meeting with US influencers at Israel’s Consulate General in New York and published in a video on influencer Debra Lea’s account on X, Netanyahu described social media as “the most important weapon … to secure our base in the US.”
He added, “We have to talk to Elon (Musk). He’s not an enemy, he’s a friend,” and claimed that if influence could be secured over TikTok and X, Israel would “get a lot.”

ISRAELI MEDIA: Israel hit with nearly $1 billion in scrapped defense contracts as global fury over Gaza war grows
In recent weeks Spain imposed an arms embargo, barring Israeli-linked supply vessels from docking in its ports and halting exports of raw materials, forcing Israeli firms to seek alternatives.
One senior industry executive told the Israeli financial daily Calcalist: “After the war [Spain will] come crawling back. They need our weapons more than we need them.”
Executives warn that the real threat lies in the continued freeze on new contracts. Deals worth billions of dollars have been stalled for months. Foreign procurement officials say the hesitation stems from hostile public opinion toward Israel, fear of domestic unrest, and a desire to avoid politically sensitive decisions.
“Wars drag on,” another executive said, “and clients can’t wait forever. If the current situation continues, we’ll see a decline in exports in 2026 and a serious blow in 2027. If things stabilize now, we can still benefit from strong demand and Israel’s reputation. But if not, we will be in an entirely different situation.”
Israel’s defense exports hit a record $14.8 billion in 2024, with half of that business in Europe (continue reading here).

Average Israelis will ‘definitely face hardship’ from EU sanctions
Daniele Bianchi, associate professor in finance at Queen Mary University of London, told Al Jazeera that measures such as suspending the trade component of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Israel, as the European Commission is proposing, would have an effect on everyday Israelis.
“For the average Israeli citizen, there’s definitely going to be hardship,” he said. “Not decisive, we’re not talking about the country collapsing by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely a worse quality of life overall.”
He said such action from the EU would be expected to result in higher unemployment, higher costs, and higher inflation in Israel, which, as a small nation, is less well-equipped to deal with such measures than a country such as Russia.

Gaza aid flotilla closing in on destination, organizers say
The Gaza-bound aid flotilla is now 463 nautical miles away from the Israel-blockaded enclave, organizers said on Saturday.
The flotilla – made up of 53 boats from at least 44 countries – set sail off the island of Crete on Saturday, accompanied by Spanish and Italian navy vessels towards Gaza.
Onwards, there are no scheduled stops until the Strip, which the crew expects to reach within four days.

Northwestern students blocked from enrollment after refusing controversial antisemitism training
At least 300 students have been prohibited from registering for classes at Northwestern University because they refused to watch a controversial antisemitism training video that they said was biased in favor of Israel, contained factual inaccuracies and could inflame campus tension over Gaza.
The university’s decision puts jobs, visas, stipends and health insurance at risk, students said during a press conference in Chicago on Friday morning, but those who spoke said they were still unwilling to do the training.
“The training is not just about silencing speech, but achieving consent so that we are complicit,” said Salma Moustafa, a PhD student in sociology. “Northwestern wants its student and faculty body to pretend it is not happening and instead consume propaganda that justifies the Israeli Zionist occupation project” (continue reading here).
From pro-Israel billionaires to Abu Dhabi royals: meet the new owners of TikTok
TikTok’s future in the US has finally been settled after years of legal battles, congressional hearings, and behind-the-scenes negotiations, leading ultimately to a $14 billion deal brokered by President Donald Trump.
On paper, the deal is about national security and data privacy; however, in practice, it appears to be about power and control of one of the most influential platforms for young people in the world, and how it will shape political narratives, particularly on Israel. TikTok’s role in broadcasting images of Israel’s war on Gaza and the way that has shifted American public opinion has been central to the pressure campaign that forced this sale.
The new owners include some of the most prominent pro-Israel billionaires in the US, alongside a fund run by Abu Dhabi’s ruling family (continue reading here).

State department appoints official to handle case of American-Palestinian teen detained by Israel
The US state department is appointing a dedicated official to handle the case of Mohammed Ibrahim, a 16-year-old dual American-Palestinian citizen who has been held in an Israeli military prison for more than seven months.
Ibrahim is scheduled to meet with the new state department point person next week, marking an escalation in diplomatic efforts surrounding the Florida teenager’s imprisonment at the Ofer military prison in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The development comes as Ibrahim’s family has intensified its campaign for the boy’s release. Last week, relatives joined other families of Americans killed or detained by Israeli forces or settlers in a series of high-profile meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill (continue reading here).
