A Palestinian teenager was killed in an Israeli “double-tap” airstrike in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood as the US administration prepared a proposed $2.8 billion arms package for Israel, including 40,000 heavy bombs.

15-year-old Mohammed Abdul Rahman al-Zeinati was returning from a Quran memorisation circle when the first attack took place, Shehab News Agency reported.

When Palestinians gathered to help an injured man, a second strike hit the area, killing Mohammed and Palestinian Civil Defence 23-year-old paramedic Sherif Shadi Ibrahim Lubbad.

“An attack took place on a young man in front of him, so his innate instinct drove him toward him along with a group of young men, only for them to be bombed again and for Muhammad to ascend,” said Palestinian journalist Mohammed Haniya.

A video of the second strike shows the moment the rescue effort was targeted.

The incident has been described as a “double-tap” attack, a term used for a second strike on the same location shortly after the first, potentially endangering civilians, rescue workers and others attempting to assist the wounded.

The incident came as the administration of US President Donald Trump prepared a proposed $2.8 billion arms package for Israel, reportedly including 40,000 heavy bombs.

According to the Associated Press, citing US officials and a person familiar with the plan, the package includes 20,000 Mk84 general-purpose bombs weighing 907kg, or 2,000 pounds, each, and 20,000 BLU-117 high-explosive bombs. It also includes I-2000 penetrator warheads designed to strike hardened or underground targets.

Congress has reportedly been informally notified, while most of the package would be financed through the US Foreign Military Financing programme, under which Washington provides funds that Israel uses to purchase American weapons.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Civil Defence said the death toll from the collapse of a building sheltering displaced Palestinians west of Gaza City had risen to eight.

Dozens of people remained missing as rescue teams searched the rubble.

The building had reportedly been damaged by Israeli shelling before it collapsed. In an earlier update, the Civil Defence said five Palestinians had been killed in the collapse.

The Gaza Health Ministry said that 1,375 Palestinians had been killed and at least 4,686 injured in Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip since the October 11 ceasefire.

Three people had reportedly been killed and 27 injured in the preceding 24 hours, according to the ministry.
