Thousands of miles from the Élysée Palace, Brigitte Macron is heading to a courtroom in Delaware, and she has to prove she is biologically female. She will show medical records, pregnancy documents, and expert testimony. This is not just embarrassing. It is surreal. A public figure is being forced to defend a basic fact about herself because of viral lies online.
The lawsuit claims Candace Owens ran a campaign to humiliate Brigitte Macron. The allegations are shocking—gender denial, incest, even CIA mind-control conspiracies. Owens spread these lies on her podcast and social media and refused to take them back. She said boldly:

Brigitte’s lawyer says she will submit every piece of evidence she has, including expert testimony. He calls it invasive and emotionally exhausting, but she is determined.
“It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself to put this type of proof forward. But she’s willing to do it. This isn’t the first time she faced this kind of attack. In 2024, she won a defamation case in France against bloggers who spread similar claims. That victory was overturned in 2025, giving Owens more confidence. Her team says defending the case in Delaware would cost too much money and that her statements are protected as free speech.
The bigger picture is worrying. If Owens wins, it could make public scrutiny of private identity normal. Courts might start expecting people to prove who they are just to defend themselves. Emmanuel Macron said it best:

What’s happening here is a sign of the times. Online lies that used to be ignored now end up in court. Victims have to show proof of reality while those spreading the lies claim immunity. Brigitte Macron proving her gender in court is more than personal. It sets a precedent. It shows how dangerous viral misinformation has become, and how high the cost is for defending the truth.
