Is the Press Still Mocking Us?

We’ve known for years that the press lies—but how many people understand to what extent? How many realize their beliefs have been shaped by the talking heads on the boob tube? It’s easy to believe the “experts” talking to us because they’re the news… right?

Not so fast! The CIA has been involved in shaping what we believe for a long time starting in the late 1940s post-WWII (and at the same time as the UFO sightings were cropping up). The CIA has been quietly shaping news and influencing public opinion in America since the Cold War, intensifying through the 1950s and 1960s. They began to write the script for the few organizations that controlled all of the news papers, magazines, televised news, and, now social media—sometimes via censorship, such as with election tampering, the Covid agenda, and the serious effects of vaccinations. Topics you couldn’t even talk about!

But there are cracks forming in their dark veneer, and people are beginning to see the light coming through.

The Smith–Mundt Act, which previously prohibited the U.S. Department of State and the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) from disseminating government-produced programming within the United States, was amended in 2013 to allow such domestic dissemination. However, the agencies involved—such as Voice of America and Radio Free Europe—are legally required to present accurate and objective news, and their content is considered a model of free press. To prevent covert influence, there is ongoing advocacy for requiring clear attribution of government-produced content when distributed domestically.

While the use of American journalists was scaled back after public exposure in the 1970s, the CIA continued efforts to shape public perception through other means—including later collaborations with Hollywood to influence its portrayal in film and television since the 1990s. Thus, the CIA’s efforts to shape public information have spanned more than seven decades, evolving from direct infiltration of news media to more subtle forms of image management.

A lot of secrets and CIA influence became available to the public in 1975, exposing the near war with Cuba and other events shaped by media. I’m certain you’ll recall how the press made going to war with the Middle East something that had to be done after 9/11/01.

As we witnessed over the past four years, rules and regulations were often ignored when talking to the public about political leaders and their involvement in private or world events. Our First Amendment rights should be held sacred—except when such speech cause riots or chaos on the streets. Why were those laws ignored in 2020 and beyond?

Time will tell what will become of the hosts and news channels, and even the politicians who were caught spreading disinformation. CNN is a good example, losing credibility and a large number of followers after getting caught.
