Awakening the Inner Hero: Escaping the Digital Dopamine Trap
Rev Kat Carroll
At a time when many are trying to connect with higher frequencies and dimensions or even adjacent realities, most of us are tuned to lower frequencies that diminish our ability to receive them.
In this age of information, we have become increasingly reliant on our computerized devices. Not just for information, not just for directions, or shopping. It’s become the entertainment of bored minds. Some are nearly zombified. (Chat GPT’s image)
I grew up in the 70’s. We didn’t have computers, pagers, or cell phones. When all was quiet after school and our parents were still at work, we did our homework and then entertained ourselves with friends. We created games and had imaginary adventures. We rode our bikes around the neighborhood like Don Quixote jousting at windmills or racing each other like Thoroughbred horses.
We were brave and inventive. Sometimes we got scraped up or broke a bone. But it never stopped us for long.

We had our toys and games. We had our tight knit group of friends. But most of all, we used our imagination. We figured out solutions to most of our problems without a lot of adult supervision. We learned to be self-reliant. We didn’t look for saviors or heroes—we were the heroes!
The Age of Technology and Distraction
A lot changed after the Roswell crash in 1947. But it would take over 20 years before the technology that was discovered would be unleashed to the public sector. And as our scientists experimented with the bounty of new tech, they also had a leg up on making them smaller, more efficient and more powerful.

Did you know that our cell phones can now handle what used to take a room full of computers to control space flight?
Our fascination with emerging technology grew as the size of the devices shrunk, as well as their price tags, making them more accessible and available for all… even children! We used to hand them a toy. Now they grab for your smart phone.
But these new toys came with a drawback. They created an environment where multiple platforms all compete for your attention. Each one with a like button, a way to comment, and a way to share your opinion. But it replaced open conversations with friends.
Young children given unrestricted access to cell phones often become socially stunted, (not to mention the issue with frequencies that can cause damage to developing brains).
With the new platforms that seized your attention came problems with drugs. Not the kind you buy on the street. I’m talking about the chemical hormones that our brain produces to give us shots of pleasure – Dopamine.
Every like, every person who agrees with you – gives you that little dopamine hit.
But what happened to the younger generation with divisive commentary and comments began to pour in? What happens when someone didn’t care for your selfie or some silly antic you published on Facebook, TikTok, Linked-in, Substack, or Instagram?
A lot of kids developed issues with their self-worth, because they threw themselves on the court of public opinion, rather than looking within. We saw an increase in childhood depression and a rise in suicides, all because they never learned how to self-regulate, how to problem solve at an early age, and how to get outside in nature and play.
Addiction to Short Term Pleasure
This phenomenon mirrors gambling addiction in almost every way. Every spin of the wheel, the sound of coins falling into the tray with the hoopla of flashing lights and ringing bells, keeps many hooked, hopeful for the next jackpot. Even after dropping hundreds of dollars into a game, the lure of a possible win is enough to keep gamblers hooked, not on the win… on the dopamine hit. That’s why you have those loud bells and flashing lights. To make it feel like a massive celebration.
For me, it’s too much noise, too much light, and too much distraction from things that are more important (at least to me).
What are their brains doing while sitting their pushing buttons or pulling levers, dropping coins, cash, and now credit cards into the machines? How many leave with more than they brought, or quit when they break even? Not many have the fortitude to walk away after they’ve won, or when they hit their spending limit. That’s a loss of self-control.
Now think about that in the context of those addicted to their cell phones and computer games. Their chats, blogs and vlogs. Some have managed to make a profit by getting enough people to watch what they post. Hit that like button, subscribe and share… After they have hit a certain number of followers, they become monetized. Now their channel is funded by advertisers. There is nothing more frustrating than listening to content that is constantly interrupted by ads.
What Short Video Clips Do to Your Brain
Recent research indicates that heavy use is linked to reduced attention span, weaker impulse control, poorer memory, and increased stress, anxiety, and sleep disruption. The blue light emitted from your devices, especially at night, disrupt natural rhythms of day and night cycles. We stay overstimulated and then find it difficult to sleep.
Fast paced, emotional content, and the unpredictable novelty of short videos, leads to frequent dopamine release and a feedback loop that encourages compulsive scrolling.
This overstimulation can desensitize the brain’s reward system, reducing the ability to find pleasure in everyday activities such as reading, socializing, or working on long-term projects,
The prefrontal cortex (that area behind your forehead), is responsible for your cognitive functions, like sustained attention, working memory, and executive control are managed by the prefrontal cortex. This area is impaired by heavy use, as the brain adapts to rapid content switching and struggles with deep focus. This also happens with excessive use of stimulants and/or illicit drugs like cocaine, and methamphetamines.
In 2024, a review of 71 studies and nearly 100,000 participants, found that heavy short-form video use was tied to poorer cognition, especially weaker attention and impulse control. The findings came from both behavioral tests and self-reported data.
The early findings mirror growing fears of “brain rot,” a slang term defined by Oxford University Press as the “supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state.” The phrase became so prevalent that Oxford named it its 2024 word of the year. A similar term is “Popcorn Brain”.
What’s the antidote?
Quite simply, you need to pull the plug – Disconnect – Turn it off and let your brain experience a sigh of quiet relief, in silence – Even if it’s only for a few moments several times during the day. That constant chatter and flipping back and forth may be enjoyably distracting from what many now consider the new norm of chaotic news and events. But rarely do these happen TO you. It’s something your read about or watch on a video, and lately, a lot of those videos are AI generated.
Do you even know what’s true anymore?
Your Inner Voice
Something within you does know. That quiet inner voice that you may have forgotten is your Higher Self. That spiritual voice and guidance that’s connected to creation itself. It can access events across space and time, even into other dimensions.
You need only to quiet your mind. This isn’t a struggle. It’s a simple as getting to a quiet space where you can sit comfortably with your eyes closed. No need to be seated in Lotus position.
Tune into your breathing. Take a few slow deep breaths and then notice how it becomes quieter, smoother, and slower. Your blood pressure will lower; your heart rate will become more rhythmic.
You enter the calm and healing state known as heart brain coherence.
I’m attaching a guided meditation to help you reach this coherent state: Gregg Braden – Powerful Guided Heart Brain Coherence Meditation to Heal Your Body and Mind!
You can use the antenna like structures of your brain to tune in to those other stations, the akashic records, the past and present, and even connect with etheric beings, by feeling and expressing love and gratitude. These are the highest frequencies and magnitudes of your true self… Access to your superpowers. They not only help you become reconnected to both heaven and earth, but to your divine nature. It’s in these blissful moments of silence and reverence that you can put forth your intentions for healing and more.
And like the ancient ones that were here eons ago, you can begin to manifest and experience what we would consider miracles.
I challenge you to take 5 minutes a day to try unplugging from social media, and tuning into yourself and what lies beyond. Feel free to take notes of your experiences and share them in the comments or send me an email. With a little practice, it will become second nature in your daily life.
In Closing
We don’t defeat distraction by fighting it — we outgrow it.
Every time you choose presence over noise, intuition over impulse, you strengthen the very muscles the digital world has tried to weaken.
Choose your mind. Choose your frequency. Choose your superpower.
You were never meant to be programmable — you were meant to be free.
Go ahead, turn on your superpowers – and fly!
Here is a little music video I created for moments like these:Heroes – We could be 2
