“Look at the big tobacco analogy,” suggested Ed Dowd.

“There were lots of individual lawsuits. And people tried to take down Big Tobacco, but they all got dismissed. States attorneys generals can get discovery — and this is how big tobacco was finally taken down,” explained Dowd.

“I think Ron DeSantis is brave, and I think we need to see other attorney generals across the nation follow suit and overwhelm them with discovery.”

  1. It's a widely shared fallacy that Big Tobacco was taken down! No, it wasn’t! It only changed strategy: if you are kicked out through the door, get in through the window!
As overt advertisement of tobacco products is illegal, Big Tobacco has compromised the entertainment industry, especially the film industry worldwide. You can hardly see any movies or tv shows nowadays without one or more characters smoking, although the act of smoking has no other role in the plot but to advertise smoking itself, while there is no warning or mentioning of the harmful effects of smoking whatsoever!

By sponsoring movies and tv shows, Big Tobacco has been covertly advertising smoking for decades, in fact very successfully, because smoking has been widespread, and ever increasing, all over the world, especially among young people.

On the other hand, this kind of covert advertisement costs Big Tobacco far less in a 90-120-minute movie than a television ad campaign would, even if it was legal!

Although it's high time that the unsacred union of Big Tobacco and Big Entertainment was exposed, no authority or investigative journalists seem to have a problem with this nefarious practice! Nothing to see here, folks!
