BBC – UK pharmaceutical giant GSK says it will pay as much as $2.2bn to settle thousands of cases in US courts over claims that a discontinued version of its heartburn drug Zantac caused cancer.
The firm announced that it had reached agreements with 10 law firms who represent around 80,000 claimants.
GSK will also pay $70m to resolve a whistleblower complaint by a laboratory that alleged the drugmaker defrauded the US government by concealing Zantac’s cancer risks.
In 2020, US regulators pulled Zantac off shelves due to fears that a key ingredient, ranitidine, could turn into a substance that may cause cancer when exposed to heat.
That move led to tens of thousands of lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturers.
The previous year, UK doctors were told to stop prescribing four types of Zantac as a “precautionary measure.”
A drug under the name of Zantac 360, which contains no ranidine, is still being currently sold.

When you have heartburn which is caused by CANDIDA which is also mother of almost all diseases including cancer,which is fungus,and CANDIDA is fungal infection.Then you sue manufacturer for damage you have done to your health with wrong diet.Give you prime example how employers are saddled with back damages from their employees.When you consume sugar,milk and milk products and many other foods fueling CANDIDA then your back hurt and if it happens at work you sue employer.Another example of food injury, this guy had ankle inflammation on his foot doctor gave him anti inflammatory drug,which did not help.It got worse swelling and overheating,he could hardly walk.I asked him what is his main diet,been divorced he does not cook.He said he eats every week lump of matured cheese,about kilo or so.I told him this is your problem,after he stop eating matured cheese swelling gone in week or so.He did not sue employer.My son school mate was 14 years old when parents divorced.He was living with his father,who never cooked.For lunch they had pizza for supper they had pizza.When he was 28 year old my son visited him in hospital dying from cancer.His body was riddled with cancer,there was nothing doctors can do.My question is how many trillions are paid globally as work damages which are actually related to wrong food damages???
