The 'looking glass' tech came from the Vatican. I think that's how Q was able to write his posts and reason the DS gave up 'Looking Glass' so easily. They had already seen the future, where man ascends and they are left behind to perish.

At the time of first listening to the original interview with Kerry Cassidy it was interesting but didn't make a lot of sense.
