My Health Journey: How I Got Off Big Pharma Drugs and Changed My Diet
This Information Could Help You!
Hosted by Dave Lemons
Fifteen years ago, I was taking 5 prescription medications in 4 pills every day for the following conditions: high cholesterol, high blood pressure (2 drugs), depression, and acid reflux. And I’d been taking these drugs for several years continuously. Then I decided to make some changes and I was able to kick the Big Pharma habit—now I haven’t been on any prescription meds in over 12 years (other than occasional antibiotics, etc.). And I’ve enjoyed relatively good health ever since. I’m certainly not any kind of health expert, but I wanted to share some things that worked for me and then hear about what your experience has been in improving your health. Here are highlights of how I improved my health:
- Stop drinking diet soda. I used to drink a lot of Diet Coke (and other diet drinks) and then I discovered how the artificial sweeteners they use are highly toxic and carcinogenic. Regular soda like Coca-Cola has so much sugar that I didn’t want that, so I eventually switched to Zevia soda which is essentially carbonated water with stevia extract for the sweetener. Also, I’ve heard about diet sodas messing with your gut health.
- Exercise—only 30-60 minutes of walking, 3-4 times/week, so no heavy-duty workouts or anything!
- Cut way back on heavily processed carbs like crackers and pretzels. I used to believe the health “experts” that recommended low-fat foods that usually had a lot of sugar added to make up for the loss of flavor.
- Started eating 1 piece of raw fruit and 1 serving of raw vegetables every day. I typically have a banana or pear or an apple every day, and then for veggies I eat a handful of raw mini-peppers or sugar snap peas. Also eat more cashews and other nuts for snacks.
- Eat more organic food, or at least non-GMO items.
- Replaced acid reflux medicine with apple cider vinegar. I put 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink that every day. This may also help with weight loss!
- RESULTS: Lost weight without extreme dieting—over a year’s time I went from 172 down to 150 pounds. And I’ve stayed around 150 or less for at least 8 years now.
I recently started exploring some new ways to improve my health. It’s looking more to me like vegetable oils that have been promoted as healthy are actually very bad for you, and the so-called food and health experts have been lying to us for decades about this. This is a big contributor to the explosion in the rates of diabetes and obesity. I’m still researching, but here are some things to consider:

- Consequences of Low-Carb Diets: Why a Low-Carb Diet May Be Inadvisable for You
- The Sugar Industry Has A Lot To Answer ForTips from The Clean-Living Project on Detoxing from Seed Oils:
- Note that extra virgin olive oil is considered much healthier than seed oils but cannot be used in high heat cooking as it breaks down at higher temperatures and may develope harmful free radicals. I like olive oil on bread, instead of using margarine. Cold-pressed or expeller-pressed seed oils are better than seed oils produced in the normal way with high heat and toxic chemicals.

Good stuff here, thank you for all the links too! I used to be in terrible health and was on thyroid medication and birth control for years. I cut those out when I made several of the changes you made as well and noticed remarkable differences in my health. One other thing I did was water fast. I started with a one day a week fast and did that for a few months, then I started intermittent fasting. I just pushed back breakfast for as long as I could and drank water instead. I found I had a lot more energy and my mind was sharper as well as my other senses. I now eat one big, nutritious meal a day and a couple of snacks like nuts and fruit. I feel amazing, I'm 75 lbs lighter and I'm completely medication free!
That's fantastic! I hope you can attend the meeting to share your journey. This is not mine but the host for that call. However, I too have similar stories. I hope your schedule permits your participation. We'de love to learn from your experiences.
Thanks for your comments, and please join us this Thursday if you get a chance.
