Vision Board: What is it? Does it work?
A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images and words that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. It can also be a written list, or a movie or ? ? (your choice)
In the early 1980’s I was a young mother with 2 – 4 children living in a 2 bedroom starter home. I stayed home and started this list on my refrigerator of things I wanted. Things that would make my life easier. I wish I had kept that list. Here are some of the things:
so . . . what do you think happened. I didn’t know about the law of attraction. The movie “The Secret” wasn’t out yet, but slowly, I crossed everything off that list. I got my mother’s piano. We had to buy a bigger car to fit everyone in. We got rid of the carpet in the kitchen and put in new flooring. I had a neighbor help finish the basement and build a playhouse for the kids and then we moved to a bigger home that had a sprinkler system and a cooler on a quiet cul-de-sac, then bought a new swing-set. This happened over 8 years time. I’ve made several more Vision Boards over the years and it’s about time for another one, so I’ll be making a new one for myself too.
I’ve given you the vision board for The Event.
Now I want you to create something you can use for your own personal life.
Start with this 4×4 so you can take a realistic look at your life. How do you rate work/$ on the physical plane? How do you rate work/$ for your Mental well-being? How do rate work/$ on your emotions? How do you rate work/$ for your spirituality. Then finish the worksheet for the rest of the categories. R & R is Rest and Relaxation. Relationships is partners, family, friends & community. Devotional is profound dedication, earnest attachment to a cause or person.
Now you should be able to see which boxes you are strong in and which area needs some help. Write in some ideas that you can do to raise your scores up – and then start taking some action.
Starting your Vision Board
Find some pictures and words that represent your final goals from the above exercise to use in your vision board. Keep it simple. Here is a simple example sheet for you to fill in. Be sure to date it and review it and make a new one every year or two. Get some further ideas by doing a search on vision boards.
