Do Not Be Afraid of What You Don’t Understand

Today’s title came from the most recent Steven Spielberg movie, Disclosure Day, of June this year. It was a message shared by a meteorologist news anchor, as an extraterrestrial spoke through her and gave her psychic abilities. I believe this is an important message for humanity, whether it came as a line from a movie, or inspired by an actual intelligence.
For roughly the last century of popular entertainment, extraterrestrial visitors have repeatedly been cast as invaders, infiltrators, predators, abductors, body-snatchers or existential threats. Yet the historical UFO/contact literature contains many accounts that don’t fit that template at all.
My personal experiences, those of friends such as Kevin Briggs (who reports having two lifelong ET friends who communicate with him), the accounts of Clifford Stone, and those of many other individuals describe positive extraterrestrial contact experiences.
These encounters are often described as benevolent, healing, or spiritually enriching encounters. These are frequently shared in online communities and anecdotal reports; a sharp contrast with the more negative or frightening narratives often associated with alien abduction stories.
Could Our Interpretation of Abduction be Flawed?
Our interpretation or understanding of some incidents may be wrong. In the early days of contact, it was clear. But as technology was developed by mimicking technology discovered on downed UFOs, pretty much everyone was fooled by terrestrial experimental aircraft. Some technologies were so secret, that even members of the military were unaware of it or the programs where it would be used.
Take for instance the story of Terry Lovelace, who considered himself and his friend Toby abductees. They were both in the military at the time. I learned of his story during a livestream interview between Dr. Simeon Hein and Terry 6 years ago, on September 1, 2020.
Terry wrote about his experience. The Devil’s Den story is about their encounter with an enormous triangular craft, an unusual beam, subsequent physical effects (radiation burns). Terry’s later interpretation became one of extraterrestrial abduction, although he and Toby had initially considered that the technology they encountered might be American or Russian. What happened remains unclear.
Memory itself can be affected by trauma, drugs, hypnosis and suggestion, and hypnosis can potentially introduce false memories as well as seemingly recover them. The fact that Terry and Toby were reportedly prevented from communicating and were eventually separated only adds another layer of intrigue. Were officials protecting classified technology, attempting to control what the witnesses remembered, investigating something they themselves did not understand—or something else entirely? We don’t really know. We do know that the mind can be tampered with as documented in programs such as MK ULTRA.
Clandestine programs are often highly compartmentalized; people working on individual components may have little idea what others are building or how the finished technology will be used. The Manhattan Project is another famous example.
Why Do We Fear the Phenomenon?
Now, 81 years after WWII, after so many real encounters with actual NHIB, why does the secrecy need to be maintained when it could help so many people, including our planet? And what of the visitors who spoke with President Truman and offered advanced technology if we would only stop production and use of nuclear weapons, because it harmed others in space, not just on earth.
If visitors have been interacting with humanity throughout recorded history, why did “extraterrestrial” become almost synonymous with “threat”? What about the stories of teaching humanity how to work with metal, grow crops. What about the healings that many have recorded, including myself. What about the telepathic communications that may be the dominant form of communication in the galaxy?
Perhaps there is a reason, and it may not be one that most would consider.
What if people have been taught to fear the phenomenon. If so, they would be less likely to interact with it. And if interaction with the phenomenon involves consciousness, perhaps what is being discouraged isn’t merely contact with something “out there,” but exploration of something within each of us.
And if this is part of a control mechanism, then the writers of the bible may have contributed from the earliest days of religion. The Bible explicitly forbids communicating with the dead or engaging in spiritism, labeling such practices as detestable to God. Key passages like Deuteronomy 18:10-12 and Leviticus 19:31 prohibit consulting mediums, spiritists, or necromancers, warning that believers will be defiled by these actions.
And yet, throughout history, royal families, presidents and First Ladies have privately consulted astrologers, mediums and spiritualists. The Lincoln, Harding and Reagan administrations provide some of the better-known examples. Apparently, practices publicly regarded as strange, forbidden or irrational have not always been considered quite so useless behind closed doors.
Are psychic abilities something we should fear? Are psychics or paranormal events bad (paranormal: that which is impossible to explain by known natural forces or by science)
There’s a quote from Arthur C. Clarke’s Third Law:
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
So, what about those people who have regular communication experiences with what we call non-human intelligent beings, or NHI. Are they bad people? Quite contrary, they are often everyday people with normal jobs who happen to be able to hear and or see things others may not.
It’s time we start looking deeper into the consciousness aspect of the contact experience.
What if some of what we call paranormal is simply communication occurring through a channel we have not yet accepted as normal? And science has difficulty as it is explaining aspects of consciousness that they know exists, but don’t yet understand.

Jacques also stated that a genuinely intelligent, interactive phenomenon may require new instruments and new experimental assumptions. He speculated that perhaps “it’s a game.”
That’s very close to what David Clements had recently explained in an interview talking about remote viewing acting as a doorway to more interaction with an intelligence that is very playful. In fact, trying to understand the experience intellectually rather than simply experiencing it could get in the way of the connection.
I’m sure you have all heard of the Law of Attraction. David also states, “The energy we emanate is how the universe mirrors and responds to us.” It’s like tuning a radio and finding the channel you want to communicate with.
David tells the story, that while working on his PhD, he believed Arcturian beings were helping him with a project. Then, as he tried to understand what he was doing, the message he attributed to them was essentially that he was approaching a living field too structurally—through the intellect alone. He describes being taught the difference between mind intelligence and heart intelligence, with the mind becoming an instrument of the heart rather than the other way around.
During this 21-day Heart Coherence challenge, his talk was wonderfully fitting. He reiterates what I and others have been stating about the importance of our state of mind, being more open and playful and heart centered. Interestingly, Clements encountered these ideas while learning remote viewing, another practice that requires quieting the analytical mind rather than allowing it to dominate the experience.
David Clements describes fear and the need for control as forms of resistance. In contrast, he associates connection with trust, openness, playfulness and what he calls heart intelligence. Rather than forcing an experience, he says his guidance has been to relax, surrender and become receptive. As he put it, “the heart’s version of understanding is compassion.” And through the heart, we connect with what he describes as the heart intelligence.
That distinction may be especially important when considering contact with non-human intelligent beings. If fear causes us to contract, defend and try to control what we do not understand, perhaps it also interferes with our ability to communicate. Clements’ experience suggests another possibility: that curiosity, compassion and openness may create a very different kind of interaction—one based not on threat, but on relationship.
But who, or what, has contributed to the “fear factor” in paranormal experiences?
Hollywood itself. Think of all the movies and TV shows you’ve watched over your lifetime. How many place ET in a positive light and how many are negative or a threat?
Positive movies about ET and Contact are few and far between as compared to those that are frightening. Some of my favorites are:
ET, Close Encounters, Starman, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Interstellar, 2001: A Space Odyssey, even Star Wars, because the good guys got rid of the negative and overly controlling Empire.
But the list of alien contact, attack scenarios and alien viruses is extensive. I’ll provide a link so you can see for yourself. And yes, the good movies are mixed in with the negative. The above list is an example of how much interest has existed in ET and UFOs over many decades. There was more fear in the movies during the 40’s and 50’s and through the Cold War. But more recently, UFOs have been considered an existential threat with fear over what they might do.
There’s an interesting inversion hiding here. Fear of the unknown is perfectly normal; the consequential question is what institutions do with that fear. In a military context, uncertainty can become a threat variable. Something enters controlled airspace, behaves in ways you cannot explain, ignores attempts at identification, or demonstrates capabilities you cannot match—the institution responsible for defense cannot simply assume benevolence.
However, Unknown is not synonymous with hostile, but neither can a defense organization automatically treat unknown as harmless.
My concern is the answer is generally to shoot first and ask questions later. But hopefully that has lessened over the years.
The trouble begins when the categories quietly collapse into one another:
The Unknown → potentially dangerous → threat → enemy.
Once that progression occurs, everything downstream changes. Observation becomes surveillance. Contact becomes interception. Curiosity becomes intelligence gathering. And an anomalous craft isn’t primarily approached with “What is it?” but “What can it do to us?”
There are also obvious military and financial incentives for gaining access to advanced technology, an argument explored by Col. Philip Corso in The Day After Roswell.
I was very happy to listen to a discussion between Robert Bigelow who used to own Skinwalker Ranch, Jacques Vallée, Colm Kelleher, and Brandon Fugal, (the current owner of Skin Walker Ranch) where they have been filming extraordinary phenomenon.
The subject matter seems to be slowly evolving from mere nuts-n-bolts aircraft of possible alien origins to more interest in the consciousness aspect of contact. Even to the point of acknowledging that something of a super consciousness may exist in the universe and communicating with us. That’s huge from that side of the UFO conversation!
Robert Bigelow is deeply invested in consciousness studies as well as life support systems for space habitats. Jacques Vallée and the others talking sounded a bit nervous as they recognize the age of secrecy regarding ETs and the technology are now open for discussion, in fact, ordered to be disclosed by President Donald Trump. Something fundamental has shifted in the UFO topic of the last eighty years. And it’s finally coming round to consciousness, something fundamental in the universe, and how we communicate with each other. And as telepathy is becoming a larger part of the discussion as an ability that may develop naturally, or can be activated via technology, we may be forced to learn new ways of thinking and communicating if we want to keep the peace!
And what if some capacities we’ve labeled psychic, paranormal, mystical, or even divine aren’t supernatural at all—but aspects of natural human capacities that we’ve forgotten, suppressed, neglected, or simply haven’t learned how to develop yet? Becoming aware of their existence is the first step followed by exercising those long dormant psychic muscles.
Closing Considerations
Perhaps the elephant in the room really is consciousness itself. We have spent decades trying to identify the craft, measure their performance, determine where they came from and decide whether those behind them represent a threat. But what if consciousness isn’t merely another feature of the phenomenon?
What if it is fundamental to it? And as Rey Hernandez has stated, “consciousness is fundamental” and not our physical reality, arguing that the brain serves as a filter mechanism or biological antenna that receives information from a universal field rather than generating consciousness itself. David Clements stated almost the same in his recent interview.
David Clements describes something he calls Source Intelligence—a living love intelligence underlying the structures of the universe and what we experience as physical reality. He compares physical form to ice crystallizing from water. Ice and water may look and behave very differently, but they are still the same substance. Perhaps we have done something similar with ourselves, concentrating so completely on physical form that we have forgotten the larger field from which we emerged.
I’m also reminded of the Tao. We give the mystery many names—God, Creator, Source, Universal Consciousness, the Divine—but perhaps the moment we name it, we have already made it smaller, limited it. (funny that that’s also a fundamental in remote viewing). A word gives the mind something to hold. Yet what if the thing we are attempting to describe cannot be held, quantified or contained because it is the very intelligence from which the structures themselves arise?
We don’t need to reduce everything to something graspable, measurable, and structurally definable. That may itself be part of the limitation and the problem with science and the study of consciousness. They can’t control it, put it in a box or fully understand it. The materialistic view is what limits their full exploration and enjoyment of the phenomenon.
And perhaps this is where free will enters the story. Clements says this intelligence does not force itself upon us. We choose whether to connect with it. His word is “invite.” That sounds remarkably familiar: Ask and it shall be given. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened. – Matthew 7:7

Perhaps contact isn’t only about who may be visiting us. Perhaps it is also about what we are willing to become receptive to. Fear tells us to close the door, defend ourselves and control what stands outside. Curiosity allows us to knock—or perhaps to answer the knock.
Don’t be afraid of what you don’t yet understand. We are learning and evolving. And perhaps the greatest disclosure ahead of us isn’t simply discovering who else is out there—but remembering who we are.
Your only limited by your beliefs and riged thinking. Let go and listen to your heart intelligence!
