Fear Not the Slip That Sets You Free
Reflections on Life, Death, and Renewal
Rev. Kat Carroll
There are moments in life when the world seems filled with partings.
Friends grow ill. Loved ones age. Some quietly slip beyond the horizon while the rest of us remain standing on the shore, wondering where they have gone and why the tides of life must change.
Over the years, I have come to see life less as a beginning and ending, and more as a rhythm or cycle. Like the tides rolling in and out. Like the breath we take each moment without fear that another will follow. In many traditions, breath itself is linked to spirit, to the invisible force that animates all life.
Nature reminds us constantly that transformation is not destruction. The sun appears to set, yet rises again. The moon disappears into darkness, only to return renewed. Perhaps the soul or spirit is perennial, much like the plants that appear to fade away in one season, only to emerge again with new life.
And often where a tree has been felled, its roots continue quietly underground until new shoots once again break the surface and reach toward the sun.
A caterpillar dissolves before reemerging transformed, ready to spread its wings and fly. In essence, it ascends.
Perhaps each spiritual journey through darkness and back is much the same, each passage lifting us a little more — another octave higher, brighter, and clearer than before, having integrated life’s lessons during the time of rest.
There is also the knowledge that love will carry us in those moments when we feel alone, for we never truly are.
I do not claim to know all mysteries of life and death. But deep within, I feel that what we truly are cannot be extinguished. The body may rest, but consciousness, love, memory, and essence continue in ways we do not yet fully understand.
What we call death may simply be another doorway in a much larger journey.
The destination is unknown, but we should enjoy the travel while we can-with those we love.
I wrote the following poem years ago during a time of quiet reflection. If it brings even a small measure of peace, comfort, or calm to someone walking through sorrow or transition, then perhaps it has served its purpose.
“Fear not the slip that set you free…”

Dedicated to those of have lost someone they love, those who may soon take the journey, and to all the light worker community helping humanity ascend to the next level of consciousness. May love always guide the way.
