The black seed has been around for ages, yet people are only now starting to learn about it.

What makes this alure more powerful when first hearing about this seed is the fact that black seed oils benefits are critically examined and fully studied all around the world.

It’s surprising to know how few are aware of its properties and benefits, however, we will do our best to enlighten you with what we’ve learned from studying this miraculous herb.

Black seeds (from the nigella sativa plant) have shown tremendous use and effectiveness against a variety of complications and issues, ranging from common hair loss to skin rejuvenation.

Many studies have also determined there are a number of things black seed oil cannot cure or treat from skin complications to fungal infections

The power of this seed leads us to ask one question: how can one seed can be so effective against a variety of complications and issues, and just how many diseases has black seed oil been found not to be able to treat?

The simple fact is that black seeds hold a complex blend of ingredients primarily comprised of two major active pillars, Thymoquinone (TQ) and Thymohydroquinone (THQ).

These two great compounds, while they cannot treat major inflammatory issues and complications, have been found to support general bodily health in a variety of ways.

We will be highlighting research done on black cumin seeds’ anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, and other properties to help you understand what it has not been determined to treat at this time. We will of course also enlighten you as to its uses as a health-supporting supplement.

Did I mention the healthy omega 3,6, and 9? How about its vitamins and other minerals?

Nigella sativa is used for its many reasons and has been studied in research to determine if it has any effect on diseases and complications.

Nigella sativa is NOT to be used for the treatment and cure of many diseases and serious illnesses, which should be addressed by consulting with your physician.

What it can be used for is promoting general health and well-being as a nutritional supplement or topically applied to hair and skin.

“Nigella sativa” is just another name for black seed oil as is black onion seed oil.

You can find a variety of names for the black seed oil as they have traveled the world over and our renowned everywhere.

What it can be used for is promoting general health and well-being as a nutritional supplement or topically applied to hair and skin

Nigella sativa is in fact what makes it completely different than black cumin oil which you also might have heard of, as well as black onion seeds.

Black seed oil is superior to black cumin oil in the fact that black seed oil contains all of the powerful nutritional properties of the black seed.

The confusion with black cumin oil comes from the name usage mishaps online, so make sure to know the difference!

Most of the nutritional effects are due to quinine constituent, of which TQ is mainly abundant.

Take note that medicinal properties of black seed do NOT exist as they pertain to the curing of serious illnesses such as cancer and HIV which should be addressed with the appropriate doctor-prescribed measures.

Research on TQ has been found done to see if it possesses the following properties:

  • anticonvulsant activity
  • antioxidant
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-cancer
  • antibacterial
  • antifungal activity

Black seed oil can be a natural support for your diet.

These are just to name a few since there are over 101 illnesses black seed oil does not cure just as there are 101 black seed oil benefits for general health and well-being.

The 2 most potent chemicals black seed contains that help it to be such an effective remedy when used as a nutritional supplement are thymoquinone and thymohydroquinone.

These 2 compounds are the main responsible elements that you can credit the wonderful benefits too.

At the same time, these two chemicals are what have led scientists to perform extensive research to determine if this oil can be used to cure HIV or cancer which, sadly, it has not been found to.

Black seed oil and diabetes, unfortunately, don’t work together when it comes to eliminating diabetes so it is important to follow doctor-prescribed solutions to such diseases.

Black cumin seeds assist your body’s immune system directly, giving it aid wherever needed.

These powerful anti-inflammatory compounds were probably the main reason why King Tut was found to have a bottle of black seed oil with him in his tomb , wishing to take it to the afterlife and why black seed plants were grown in Egypt.

These 2 compounds are also responsible for striking wonder and awe in thousands of researchers’ minds because of the capabilities the little seed packs.

In fact, the Muslim Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was quoted in saying, “it cures anything except death.”

Although in modern medicine many potential positive claims are still being studied, it shows to an extent the many benefits of this oil for maintaining general health and wellness.

101 Black Seed Oil Benefits & Uses

While many people may think black seed oil for herpes can help or that black seed oil can help with bronchitis fever, this is NOT directly the case as you will see in this article.

Majority of the benefits can be experienced with a natural change to a healthy diet and lifestyle. In the quest for miracle cures, it’s easy to forget how our daily health choices play the biggest role in our wellness.

1. Can Black Seed Oil Be Used for Heart Health Benefits?

An unhealthy heart can be a result of a variety of reasons, but they all stem from a common denominator; not giving the heart the nutrients and attention it needs.

The rich and unsaturated Omega 6 & 9 acids as well as the phytosterols that black seeds contain might offer benefits and help reinforce being aware of taking care of your heart health.

Studies have been done to see if in some cases N. Sativa can help glycemic control. (1)

Researchers conducted studies on phytosterols contained in black seed oil and how it can impact elasticity in blood vessel walls.

The study conducted on mice found the phytosterols to reduced arterial pressure in the mice.

While black seed oil does help maintain general heart health, it cannot prevent blood clot formation, or significantly reduce arterial pressure.

Clinically, it has not been used to help lower your cholesterol and blood sugar either.

Countless studies have been conducted to see if black seed oil has the ability to promote heart health and research will continue to happen down the line.

Black seed oil can have unwanted side effects if your currently taking medication for your heart, do not mix black seed oil with your medications.

For centuries, black seed oil’s ability to promote heart health has been one of the main uses of black seed oil and one of its most praised benefits.

Just remember, however, that serious heart problems should be discussed with your doctor to determine the most appropriate cure.

2. Can Black Seed Oil Fight Fungal Infection?

Bacteria and infections have been some of the most studied potential uses of black seed.

Fungal infections occur when bacteria grow on top of your skin, resulting in a variety of different diseases and rashes.

Research shows that fungus and mold cannot co-exist with the compounds found in black seeds, but many scientists have concluded it cannot clinically fight fungal infections.

This has lead many scientists to continue research on this powerful herb.

While black seed oil is a powerful and amazing herb that serves as a good natural remedy for maintaining good general health, black seed’s antifungal and anti-bacterial properties are not strong enough to fully treat and cure fungal infections.

Black seed oil should not be used in place for any antibiotics or medications your doctor prescribes you.

3. Can Black Seed Oil for Allergies Be Effective?

Many of us develop allergies and sinus infections, which could signify a weak immune system that could need immediate help.

Having strong anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds will help with sinus infections, be sure to connect with your health care professional for recommendations on treatment.

Using black seed oil for commonly occurring seasonal allergies can be one of the best supplements to take for added health benefits.

Black seed oil cannot cure and treat sinus infections the way a doctor-prescribed treatment can so be sure to consult with your physician in the event of a sinus infection or abnormal allergy levels.

Black seed oil can be rubbed around the nose or taken as a dietary supplement.

Oral N. sativa seed fixed oil has been found to possibly help promote general immune health. 27.

The immunomodulatory effects of N. sativa seed fixed oil are not related to the effects on Th1 and Th2 cell responsiveness to allergen stimulants 28.

Black seed oil itself contains strong anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agents that are being fully studied to determine its potential.

Black Seed Oil cannot cure and treat sinus infections the way a doctor prescribed treatment can so be sure to consult with your physician in the event of a sinus infection or abnormal allergy levels.

It’s safe to say that using black seeds for allergies commonly occurring seasonally can be helpful in promoting good general sinus health, but it can not quite substitute a doctors recommendation for your allergy medicine when you are faced with more serious sinus or allergen issues.

4. Can Black Seed Oil for Skin Be Beneficial?

From tone to texture, there are many reasons for someone wanting healthier skin.

With all the essential fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids, black seed oil makes the perfect all-around daily skin moisturizer.

Not only is it great for protection (when used for light sunburn, etc.), but it also has anti-aging properties that help with common wrinkles.

You can also read more on black seed oil for skin. (ps you can also read up on coconut oil benefits here, they’re also amazing for your body & skin!)

5. Can Black Seed Oil for Skin Cancer Be of Benefit?

Cancer is a result of DNA mutations multiplying too quickly for your immune system to catch up. Caused mainly by inflammation, the thymoquinone and thymohydroquinone properties of black seeds have been studied to see what their effectiveness in its treatment might be.

The potent antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties it contains (the 2 main properties of black seeds) are just not potent enough to target your white blood cells and boost your immune health in a way that results in killing cancer cells. They can be beneficial for general immune system support in a healthy state, however.

A study conducted by Nutrition and Cancer in 1991 showed that topical application of N. sativa extracts inhibited two-stage initiation/promotion [dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)/croton oil] skin carcinogenesis in mice.

Known mainly for its anti-inflammatory properties, black seed oil has benefits in the use of many different challenges, including topical application on skin.

Sadly, while it has strong anti-inflammatory properties, black seed oil has not been clinically proven to prevent and treat any cancers, whether it be skin cancer, lung cancer, or prostate cancer.

One thing we can be sure about is that as a moisturizer, black seed oil can work great for the skin.

6. Can Black Seed Oil for Acne Work?

Black seed oil for Acne is a common search topic because everyone wonders how to deal with acne.

One of the reasons acne occurs might be caused by inflammation of the skin, which causes people to break out.

A study conducted by AJTCAM was done to determine if there is an antibacterial effect of Nigella sativa ground seeds with water. (2)

Black seed oil can be topically applied to your skin giving it a soft and natural glow.

Compounds such as anti-inflammatory and regenerative elements found within black seed oil can really be studied for there potential usefulness on common skin issues.

While black seed oil is good for helping to support healthy skin and counter the appearance of common acne, it cannot cure serious clinical cases of acne or excessive, uncommon forms of acne breakouts.

When confronted with serious acne issues, you want to be sure to consult with your dermatologist for the recommended solution.

7. Can Black Seed Oil for Infection Help?

Infections of all types are fought off by the immune system, specifically white blood cells.

Although most research conducted on black seed oil is done on infections such as MRSA it still needs a full analysis by the FDA to determine if it can be used as a treatment for infections.

While it does target the immune system directly, and while black seed oil helps boost your body’s healthy immune functionality, it is not strong enough to help your body fight off infections from head to toe.

This is a unique property that black seeds were known for throughout history, which led of course to it being heavily researched to see if it can clinically fight infections. Black seed cumin oil has stood the test of time.

When it comes to possible effects of its ingredients such as anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, black seed oil has been heavily researched in that regard.

However, it should be noted that all research was clinical and no claims of cure have been established.

8. Can Black Seed Oil Boost Fertility?

For general fertility health, black seed oil can help support a healthy reproductive system and healthy levels of fertility.

Antioxidant components in medicinal herbs such as Nigella sativa (NS) have been studied to determine if they improve spermatogenesis and steroidogenesis.

A study published in the Journal of Herbal Medicine aimed to study the effects of Nigella sativa on male infertility.

The outcome of this study indicated that Nigella Sativa can possibly influence sperm parameters, semen, Leydig cells, reproductive organs and sexual hormones, although there was no conclusive evidence of full improvement.

The main potential mechanism of use is through the antioxidant properties of Nigella Sativa. Thymoquinone (TQ)and unsaturated fatty acids are the main antioxidant components of NS.

Although the findings of this review suggest that Nigella Sativa is a potential candidate for male infertility treatment, there is insufficient evidence to make recommendations for its use as an adjunct therapy in infertile men.

Infertility can have a variety of different causes and is best consulted with a doctor.

More clinical trials are recommended to demonstrate the efficacy of NS on male infertility.

With a healthy diet and workout, black seed oil may act as a natural aphrodisiac. With the help of blood circulation and oxygen to sex organs, your sex drive may improve.

9. Can Black Seed Oil for Hair Benefit Your Scalp?

From thinning hair to dryness, there are countless of reasons which can cause hair issues, mainly by not taking care of your health.

Even if you do take care of it, ironically, many of the hair shampoos, conditioners, and products in the market may actually cause more damage than solving hair problems.

One of the more popular uses of black seed oil is for hair improvement and promoting overall hair shine as well as hair restoration.

Although it’s really not concrete as to why exactly black seeds help with hair, one can assume that it stems from its potent properties.

Those properties are also combined with healthy fatty acids such as omega 3,6, and 9, that have shown to maintain healthy levels of hair follicle production and strength.

Amazingly, black seed oil has been found to be a potential natural remedy for common premature gray hair appearance.

For more details, check out: How Black Seed Oil for Hair Can Boost Scalp and Hair Health.

10. Can Black Seed Oil for Flu and Fever Be Useful?

Another arising issue directly related to a weak immune system is flu or fever which can cause serious and even more damage to your immune system.

Not having a way to help your body can leave you in bed for days if not weeks, which is something we all hate experiencing.

Since the black seed is anti-inflammatory, scientists have studied to see if one could effectively use black seed oil for cases of flu and fevers only to discover it is not really reliable for quick relief.

Hoping to see immediate aid to the immune system, researchers determined the potent antioxidant and antibacterial properties of black seed oil did not clinically battle the flu the way a physician’s recommendation might.

If you are recovering from a common cold or experiencing the occasional seasonal soreness in your throat, the nigella seeds may ease your general discomfort.

A suggested recipe is mixing honey and black seed oil in a cup of warm water. Doing this daily may not only help with your common cold symptoms but possibly help your overall well-being.

11. Can Black Seed Oil for Boils and Carbuncles Reduce Them?

Whether it’s a single boil (furuncle) or a cluster of boils (carbuncle),  black seed oil is was tested to see if it could work for quick relief.

As long as the boil/s are smaller than a half inch, black seed oil may support the bodies natural healing process and urge them to disappear.

Boils are caused by bacteria which the potent anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties of black seed’s TQ have been studied to see if they can affect and contain.

If the boil is any larger than half an inch or exceptionally unusual in any way, be sure to seek immediate medical attention.

12. Can Black Seed Oil for Coughs and Asthma Work?

With the inflammation of bronchial tubes (the body parts that allow you to breathe easily), it can cause quite a stir and inconvenience gasping for air, breathing deeply but not getting enough oxygen to your lungs.

The anti-inflammatory properties of black seeds make it one of the most ideal diamond herbs, but not for asthma and anything other than a common cough or two.

Although black seed oil targets your immune system and its antibacterial properties help fight off bacteria and viruses in a healthy state, it is not the best for just anything that’s caused by inflammation.

If you have bronchitis and asthma, be sure to seek medical attention as this is not a recommendation for treatment.

It has even been recorded in history that the one of the main uses the Ancient Egyptians had for it was helping promote healthy levels of cardiovascular health.

For ways to improve cardiovascular health be sure to consult your physician.

13. Can Black Seed Oil for Diarrhea Help?

Since most diarrhea is a result of a viral infection, the anti-inflammatory properties of black seed led to the black seed being tested as a possible home remedy for it.

Black seed benefits include helping promote a balanced digestion and intestines, allowing your body to become less constipated.

The thing is, that is in a general health sense versus the case with diarrhea–which is often a far more serious issue that needs a professional diagnosis and suggested solution by a licensed health professional.

Many suggest mixing 1-2 teaspoons of black seed oil with yogurt for 2 days before the diarrhea is completely gone, however, this is NOT a cure for diarrhea as it serves only to help with the general nourishment of your body during that time as blackseed is rich in vitamins and nutrients.

Organic black seed oil is to be used as a nutritional supplement and not a diarrhea medication.

14. Can Black Seed Oil Help High Blood Pressure?

Black seed oil for high blood pressure was studied to see if it could become one of the common uses of black seed oil today.

Unfortunately, it cannot be recognized as an official treatment.

While scientists were hoping that many high blood pressure patients would notice a significant drop in their blood pressure levels when taking black seed oil, this was not able to be determined.

These studies may have led many to hope they could be taking black seed oil as a natural remedy for reducing high blood which is unfortunately not the case.

15. Can Black Seed Oil Treat Insomnia?

Studies have been conducted to see if taking black seed oil for insomnia and other sleep disorders can be very effective as many people are on the lookout for anything that can help them eliminate their sleeping disorder altogether.

17. Can Black Seed Oil Relief Nausea and Upset Stomach?

Black seed oil for nausea and upset stomachs are another notorious use of black seeds.

The reason why it makes for such a powerful remedy for the occasional non-debilitating nausea or upset stomach is due to the fact that it stimulates your body’s digestion and induces the expulsion of gas—both two natural processes of a healthy person.

For nausea, a common recipe is mixing a teaspoon of black seed oil with a teaspoon of ginger juice (twice daily).

For chronic or debilitating nausea or upset stomach, seek medical attention immediately.

18. Can Black Seed Oil Ease Toothaches?

Another effective remedy for toothache relief is black seed oil. To relieve the pain and soreness of an occasional toothache caused by chewing a little too hard or talking too much, one may rub the oil on their gums for 20 seconds.

Then, sit back and feel the antioxidants go to work.

It is important to differentiate between chronic, strong, and debilitating toothaches that could be disease or illness-driven and those that are merely the occasional occurrence of soreness after a trip to the dentist.

Whenever experiencing strong tooth pain, be sure to consult with your dentist as soon as possible as black seed oil is NOT the solution to this.

19. Can Black Seed Oil for Leukemia Cells Help?

Studies were initiated after the discovery that black seeds had antiproliferative effects in human myeloblastic leukemia HL-60 cells.

This can be traced back to the thymoquinone it contains that makes it such a powerful remedy for some general aches and pains.

The thing is, black seed oil is NOT a cure for leukemia and a doctor should be consulted for the proper treatment of this condition.

20. Can Black Seed Oil for Breast Cancer Work?

Black seeds’ thymoquinone & antioxidant properties make for powerful scavenger abilities.

They are useful for tons of other common nonlethal ailments, but they could not be considered a key ingredient in the suppression of cancer cell growth.

Their inability to inhibit cancer growth was not able to convince doctors that it could be an effective natural alternative for colon cancer treatment. And so the research continues…

The research was not able to conclude that black seed oil cures eczema, however.

Simply consume 1-2 teaspoons daily for immediate relief of common discomforts.

When it comes to weight management, black seed oil is a powerful natural remedy supportive of a healthy weight.

See more on black seed oil for weight loss.

25. Can Black Seed Oil Help Diabetes?

What made black seed oil for diabetes a subject of study for scientists?

Its ability to promote overall blood health was hoped to significantly lower blood pressure and help both insulin and noninsulin dependent diabetes patients.

The reality is that it cannot prevent diabetes and is not a cure for type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Again, it is only helpful in improving your overall blood health and not curing a disease such as diabetes.

26. Can Black Seed Oil for Seizures Work?

Most of today’s medication and treatment for seizures come with a long list of side effects (that’s if you’re one of the few with access to treatment).

Because of this, it is no wonder why researchers were inspired to try and figure out if black seed oil is an effective anticonvulsant.

Some studies have shown seizure free behavior in patients who took black seed oil daily for 4-6 weeks along with their current medication.

Many researchers have concluded that this was mainly due to the potent effects of thymoquinone found in black seeds.

No conclusive evidence has been found in these studies to prove black seed oil has a full treatment plan for epilepsy. Do not leave your doctor’s recommendation, rather consult with them.

27. Can Black Seed Oil for Tonsil Inflammation Help?

Since black seeds are anti-inflammatory, they were researched to find out if they could relieve users from throat pain caused by inflamed tonsils and alleviate the need for painkillers.

While previous studies had shown it to be an effective natural remedy for throat pain of the common and occasional sort, they are not a substitute for current doctor prescribed treatments for tonsil inflammation.

Black seed oil will just have to stick to being a good natural remedy for sore throats of the non-illness, common type

28. Can Black Seed Oil for MRSA Work?

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MSRA) has plagued hospitals and treatment centers worldwide due to the fact that staph infections are becoming more and more resistant to generic antibiotics.

Caused by a weak immune system, the anti-inflammatory agents of black seeds were thought to possibly make it a great alternative to many of today’s antibiotics.

The research was not able to conclude there are any infections that black seeds can help treat.

More problematic for elders (since it involves surgery in some cases), MSRA can be harvest a lot of uncontrollable pain throughout the body. Many people wish studies would have shown black seed oil compounds to be an effective way to inhibit the spread and remove MRSA altogether as this is probably one of the more dreadful illnesses. We certainly hope a cure can be found soon!.

  1. Hello, I Judy once read that Black Seed Oil or Astaxanthin Oil DON'T take both it's one or the other. Is it BETTER to take BSO drops under the tongue or just 1/4 tsp twice-a-day. Another Black Seed Honey ("Allows the body to Heal Itself"). To GOD Be The Glory, GOD Bless Us All.

    STAY SAFE

  2. i frequently suffer from severe migraines and have recently discovered major relief from black seed oil… FYI take a piece of cotton and saturate it with black seed oil. then place the soaked cotton ball in the ear that is closest to where the pain is occurring. let the oil run into the ear canal and leave the cotton in place until pain subsides. (resaturate the cotton if necessary)

  7. I am 63 year old who was diagnosed 8 months ago with Parkinson’s. I had severe calf pain, muscle pain, slurred speech, frequent falls, loss of balance, difficulty in getting up from sitting position, I was having a problem accepting my diagnosis, even though I read every thing I could find to read. I was put on Sinemet 3 times daily but it didn’t seem to be helping. After 4 months of been diagnosed I was having difficulty writing. Getting in bed, turning over. There has been little if any progress in finding a cure or reliable treatment. So this year our primary physician suggested I started on Natural Herbal Gardens Parkinson’s Herbal formula which eased my anxiety a bit,We ordered their PD herbal treatment after reading alot of positive reviews, i am happy to report with the help of Natural Herbal Garden natural herbs I have been able to reverse my symptoms using herbs,8 weeks into treatment I improved dramatically. At the end of the full treatment course, the disease is totally under control. No case of Slurred Speech, loss of balance, or weakness. Visit Natural Herbal Gardens official website www. naturalherbalgardens .com This Herbal Protocol is Incredible!! My life is back.
